Welcome to ARC Animal Rescue
Rescuing and Rehabilitating Stray Animals
This is the “ARC” of the lives of the pets whom we intake: Our Rescue specializes in highly vulnerable pets, at immediate risk of euthanasia for medical, behavioural and other situational emergency circumstances. We have also provided support services for the disabled, elderly and low income pet families on a case by case basis. Without our ability to react quickly, virtually every single pet whose lives we have touched would be dead. The arc of their lives often begins at the cusp of certain death and transitions into these same pets as treasured and adored family members!

ARC NO SCARY FIREWORKS
The Heart of Our Mission
How Fireworks Affect Animals:
-
Sensory Overload: The
sudden loud noises, bright lights, and rapid changes in environment can overwhelm animals' senses, causing fear and distress.
-
Anxiety and Panic:
Many animals become extremely anxious and panicky, leading to behaviors like hiding, trembling, excessive barking or meowing, pacing, and attempts to escape.
-
Physical Harm:
In their panic, animals might try to escape, leading to injuries from running into objects, getting lost, or getting hit by cars.
-
Ingestion of Fireworks:
Some animals might even try to eat fireworks, which can cause gastrointestinal upset, vomiting, or even damage to red blood cells if they contain harmful chemicals.
-
Increased stress:
Fireworks are associated with increased stress and can cause pets to become aggressive, or to have difficulty with normal behaviors.
ASPCA Recommendations for Pet Safety:
-
Keep pets indoors: During fireworks displays, it's best to keep pets indoors in a safe and comfortable area.
-
Secure your yard: Ensure your pets cannot escape or run away during fireworks.
-
Provide a quiet and safe space: Create a calm and familiar environment for your pet with familiar bedding, toys, and quiet music.
-
Talk to your veterinarian: If your pet is particularly anxious or fearful, consult with your veterinarian about ways to help them cope with the noise and lights.
-
Encourage safer alternatives: Consider working with local officials to require the use of colorful "silent" or "quiet" fireworks for public celebrations or use laser shows and drone displays instead of fireworks.
-
Clean up after fireworks: Ensure that any debris, including potential toxic material, is cleaned up to prevent your pet from ingesting anything harmful.
-
Contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center: if you suspect your pet has been exposed to toxic substances.
